چکیده

The staffs of haematological laboratories spend much of their time counting red cells. The precision of this estimation is therefore of practical importance, and many experiments have been designed to establish the error of the technique. In spite of this, the most widely divergent views are still held as to the reliability of single observations. In 1881 Lyon and Thoma showed that the 'standard error of counts made on the same sample of blood was roughly proportional to the square root of the number of cells counted. Thus in a count of 100 cells the standard error would be roughly ./ 100, and repeat counts on the same sample might by chance vary from 80 to 120 cells, or, in counts of 500 cells, the standard error would be approximately V/ 500 or 4.5 per cent. Red cell membrane protein abnormalities as defined by sds-page among patients with anaemia in a west african region hospital practice

Background: Erythrocytes require an ability to deform and to withstand shear stress while negotiating the microcirculation. These properties are largely due to their excess surface area per volume and the characteristics of the membrane’s protein. Deficiencies of these proteins are associated with chronic haemolysis. Methods: This was a cross sectional  study aimed at determining the prevalenc...

An Overview on: The Red Blood Cell Histogram

The RBC histogram is an integral part of automated hematology analysis and is now routinely available on all automated cell counters. This histogram and other associated complete blood count (CBC) parameters have been found abnormal in various hematological conditions and may provide major clues in the diagnosis and management of significant red cell disorders. In addition, it is frequently use...

Effect of Thyroid Dysfunctions on Blood Cell Count and Red Blood Cell Indice

Abstract Background Thyroid hormones have a crucial role in metabolism and proliferation of blood cells. Thyroid dysfunction induces different effects on blood cells such as anemia, erythrocytosis leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, and in rare cases causes’ pancytopenia. It also alter RBC indices include MCV, MCH, MCHC and RDW. Thus this study attempted to evaluate effect of hypo & hyperthyroi...
